In the most fertile days of the patient, the date of sexual intercourse is determined.

Whom does it benefit?

Ovulation induction is beneficial to the women who ovulate infrequently or who do not ovulate at all through a range of different fertility drugs. It is a procedure that stimulates ovulation by medication.

What is the procedure?

Ovulation induction therapy is focussed on achieving healthy ovulation and depending on the diagnosis, ovulation of multiple eggs happens instead of just one each month. The patient’s per cycle chance of pregnancy is increased significantly by inducing the release of more than one egg with the help of intrauterine insemination (IUI). This method is the least invasive fertility treatment method and most natural available. It involves oral fertility medications and it is time tested. Response rate is very good to this fertility treatment.

Once the appropriate size of the follicle is achieved, ovulation is triggered by giving HCG. This is where timed intercourse plays a vital role. The patient is to have intercourse the next day for consecutively 4 days with only one ejaculation per day. Within 1 or 2 days of a positive ovulation test, well-timed intercourse is advised and planned around the time of ovulation. Reported side effects of GnRH fertility drugs include ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), a condition where the ovaries swell and enlarge, though this is very rare, nausea, vaginal bleeding, headache or abdominal pain.
