1. Fish and Seafood
A high level of mercury is commonly found in large fish which is harmful to infants or young children. It can cause brain and the nervous system disorders. Fish are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids which is good for the health of Mom and infant. So you can go for hygienic, fresh water ones which has a lesser amount of mercury like shrimp, salmon, tilapia, etc.
Eggplant or brinjal is a common Indian food. It also helps in treating amenorrhoea and premenstrual disorder. On the contrary, it is not advisable to consume brinjal during pregnancy. However, having them in little amounts once in a while is not an issue.
3. Unpasteurized Milk and its Products
Milk is definitely important but it should be pasteurized i.e, Milk should be boiled before drinking as it kills germs and prevents disease-causing microbes which can be harmful to the fetal growth.
Papaya is very dangerous to consume during pregnancy. a substance called latex, which is present in raw and unripe papaya leads to uterine contractions. Papain and pepsin contents in papaya restrict fetal growth. All the nutritionists and food experts advise to strictly avoid unripe papaya during pregnancy.
5. Refined Flour Products
Items made of refined flour like bread, noodles, pasta, pita, cookies, pizza, etc should be avoided during pregnancy. Likewise, women carrying a child should maintain distance from air-packaged and instant food items like pickles, sauces, chutneys.
